Guaranteed to keep you on edge is Springfilm’s next showing – Jordan Peele’s horror film Get Out. This 2018 Best Original Screenplay Oscar Award winner was praised for its direction, biting satire of modern society and performances. The film follows African-American photographer Chris (Daniel Kaluuya in an Oscar-nominated performance) on a reluctant trip to meet the parents of his white girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams). After arriving to find that Rose’s parents are hosting an annual gathering, Chris witnesses strange and disconcerting behavior from both the African-American servants, the affluent white guests and another African-American man, Logan, whom Chris is sure he recognizes but now answers to another name. Peele was the first African-American winner for Best Original Screenplay and only the third person (after Warren Beatty and James L. Brooks) to earn Best Picture, Director and Screenplay nominations for a debut film.
Starring Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford and Catherine Keener; directed by Jordan Peele; 104 minutes; 1981; Rated R.
